With summer here a lot of us are looking for things to do to keep the kids entertained. There are a lot of places to go, vacations to enjoy and parks to visit. For those very hot summer days, I have a great craft that can keep your little ones entertained, at least for a little bit.
Photo wood transfer is super in right now and it is something quick and easy to do at home. Here are the materials and steps to follow for this fun craft:
Materials:
- Wood plaque – there’s a wide variety of these out there and it all depends on what you’re trying to accomplish
- Liquitex
- Mod Podge – it can either be matte or gloss finish
- Brush – it can either be a foam paint brush or a bristle paint brush
- Washcloth
- Picture printed on regular paper – either black and white or colored
Step one:
Take the plaque of wood and cover it with a thick coat of Liquitex. You can use a regular painting brush or a foam painting brush. I prefer the foam one because it leaves a smoother surface.
Step two:
Place the printed picture facing down on top of the plaque of wood. Make sure you gently press the paper to smooth out any air bubbles that might have been created. Once you do this let it sit for at least 12 hours.
Step three:
Soak your washcloth in water and place on top of the wood plaque so it gets the paper really wet. Remove the towel from the top of the plaque and use it to start scrubbing the paper in order to get it removed. It can take several attempts to remove all the paper. I like to do it once, let it dry for a few minutes, and try it again to make sure all paper remanent is removed. Once you’re done, your picture should be transferred to the wood. Let it dry for a few hours or until it feels like there are no more humid spots.
Similar to the one I made for this tutorial, your wood plaque might have some areas where you got little bubbles and the picture didn’t transfer well. If this happens, don’t worry since it will look like part of the rustic look.
Step four:
Apply a layer of Mod Podge using the same brush you used on Step one. Let it dry for 24 hours and you should be all set.
