What Did You Do, Mom?

0

What Did You DoA typical Saturday morning at our house. Kids are on the couch eating pop tarts and watching cartoons. Dog is cleaning up the crumbs. Baby is babbling and wanting a bottle. Mom made herself a hot cup of coffee. Sits on the couch, notices a table of clutter and gets up. And so it begins.

imagePicking up toys, throwing away garbage, putting dishes in the dishwasher. Reheating coffee. Feeding the baby, letting the dog out, putting laundry away. Reheating coffee. Cleaning out the fridge, laying the baby down for a nap, up the stairs – down the stairs – up the stairs – down the stairs, rocking the baby, putting more laundry away. Cleaning a toilet. Reheating coffee. Cleaning up breakfast mess, making snacks, vacuuming, cleaning up dog poop. Giving up on the reheated coffee and starting with fresh.

During this time Dad ran to the grocery! He cleaned bottles and the basement. He has been cleaning out the garage for over an hour getting it ready for a party this evening. (We should mention that mom spent 2 hours earlier in the week doing the same and will spend an hour decorating later. ) But, Dad got stuff done today!

We appreciate it! He is awesome.

Mom helps dad and restocks the toilet paper in the bathrooms, wipes out the sinks, cleans another toilet. Looks in a mirror and quickly looks away. Up the stairs – down the stairs- up the stairs. Gets the baby out of bed, dresses and changes the baby, plays with the baby. Down the stairs again. Feeds the baby, drinks for big kids, dishes again.

Reheats her coffee.
Sits down.
Checks email.
Sips coffee.

Seven year old walks in and says – “Dad has been doing chores all day, what did you do, Mom?”

Bites tongue.
Maybe yells a little.
Hands hangers and laundry to seven year old.
Seven year old learns to put away his own laundry.
Reheats coffee.
Sips coffee.

Life of a mom.
