Summer in The Bag – 5 Products I Love in the Sun Kissed Season

BeachAhh, summertime and the livin’ is easy! Well, at least it’s supposed to be easi-ER, right? And that definitely applies when it comes to the morning / personal care routine. Now, I’m not saying I’m so lazy that I prefer “summer style” hair and makeup year- round . . . Oh wait, actually I am saying that. These are five products that I love year-round, and especially in the summer when everyone can get on board with air-drying hair, pared down makeup, and 5 minutes to get out the door and go do something fun.

photo (4)1: Neutrogena Mineral Sheers powder foundation is kind of like a cross between straight-up pressed powder and foundation. It offers more, and longer-lasting coverage than a traditional pressed powder but doesn’t get all cake-y in creases and wrinkles. I love that this is a multi-tasker for me – foundation and powder/shine control in one product.

2: Urban Decay Naked blush is a bronzer/highlighter/blush combo and another multi-tasker (moms LOVE multi-taskers, don’t we?). You can use any one of the colors alone, which is especially nice during less summery months, or swoosh them together for a perfectly sun-kissed dusting. I like that the highlighter here is very finely milled and subtle – it doesn’t scream “disco shimmer” and can be worn day or night.
3: Cargo long wear lip gloss – I could never be loyal to just one brand of lip-gloss, but this is a nice one because it’s not as gloppy or sticky as some. The “Madrid” shade looks darker than it is, and is really a deep, slightly shimmery pink that looks great against olive or medium-toned skin, but there are lots of colors available.
4: Loreal Curve It Elasti-curl mouse – My hair is very fine but there’s plenty of it (I’ve been told by stylists I’ve got good “density” if that’s the technical term). It’s also that somewhat infuriating in-between-wavy-and-straight kind of texture. If I wanted it to be perfectly straight, that would involve blow-drying AND a flat-iron, which on most days I file squarely under “Things Ain’t Nobody Got Time For.” So, I mostly give up and work with the texture, which means smushing in a couple of products and air-drying. I DO got time for that! This mousse definitely boosts the volume and wave in my hair, without making it “crunchy.”
5: Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe salt spray is the 2nd and final step in my “usual” hair style. It says what it does, and does what it says – a saltwater spray (that actually doesn’t smell particularly beachy, or much like anything, for that matter) for “beachy” waves and texture. I find it works well to sort of “activate” the mouse and boost what would be a very slight bend into actual waves.
