When I was asked whether I would want to have photos taken by Kati** at Kandid.ly at dawn or at dusk, my reaction was to quickly claim that dusk would be much better. Not only would my son and I likely not be awake at dawn, but we all tend to be in a much better mood in the evening. But you know how plans go when you have a kid, right? They usually don’t. Despite my best efforts, my son Ben was in an awful mood before Kati even walked in the door.

Sam-cincymom (4)Despite the crying, fussing, and bad mood, Kati did an awesome job at capturing our little family’s evening routine. She was easy to have around and made it easy to go about our nightly rituals with her snapping photos in the background. She told us to just do what we would normally do, so that’s what we did. She captured some great moments of our life right now.

Sam-cincymom (17)Because of my son’s fussiness, we decided to head up to bed before normal. I thought we would just do bedtime and be done since he wasn’t really having it anyway. So upstairs we went, like usual, with my son upside down in his dad’s arms.

Sam-cincymom (27)A bedtime story seemed to cheer him up a bit. I love this photo especially since it captures how Ben interacts with Jason while he reads to him. He points and helps to flip the pages and talks to the images.

Sam-cincymom (47)After pajamas and bedtime stories and cuddling, Ben wanted nothing to do with actually sleeping. So, back downstairs we went to try to get him to remember how tired he was. Who else has been in this situation? You thought your kid needed to sleep but turns out, not so much.

Sam-cincymom (49)He had fun scooting around the house for a little while longer, chasing the dog and trying to get into trouble. Kati captured it all from all angles. She was on the floor a lot, getting down to Ben’s level to get the best photo. I couldn’t help but think how I wish I would have mopped the floors before she came over, but she didn’t seem to mind at all.

Sam-cincymom (53)This one. This kid. I’m so glad to have this photo of my boy.

Sam-cincymom (61)Since we had time and Ben wasn’t getting tired anytime soon, we decided to go swing in the backyard. This is usually a nightly activity we do when my husband gets home from work and it’s one of Ben’s favorite things to do.

Everett is never far behind, especially when we’re outside.

Sam-cincymom (68)Swinging put Ben in a little better mood in the end. Or, maybe he was just having fun having his picture taken so much and being cute for someone new. It was probably a little of both.

Sam-cincymom (84)Inside, the tiredness finally set in and Ben returned to being fussy. Kati stuck around for a little longer to capture this too. This is definitely real life.

Sam-cincymom (89)One of the last photos she took was this one. Ben gets cuddly when he’s tired, and this night was no exception. Poor kid was wiped out but didn’t want to be.

I’m so grateful for these photos that Kati took. They capture our lives so well. They represent real life, right now, the three of us, just doing life together. It was so fun to get the photos back to see what moments she was able to capture, and the process and having her in our home was so easy. It would be fun to do it again in a few months to see how life has changed for us.
