Mommy Wars: Waving the White Flag

0

Everyday on social media there seems to be something about instigating a mommy war, or a continuation of an existing one. Vaccines, breastfeeding, homemade vs. storebought food, cloth vs. disposable diapers, just to name a few. I admit that I am totally guilty of letting my hormones or mama bear instincts get the best of me. Just like every other mom out there, I’m not perfect. I have flaws. But after joining a local moms group that is seriously lacking in drama and judgment (plus having two kids in less than 19 months), I have decided my next mom war move is waving the white flag.

Mommy Wars

I surrender.

My kids are happy. With the exception of reflux (which we can all agree is the devil), my kids are healthy.

Almost as important: my husband and I are happy. And healthy. And our relationship with each other and our kids has never been better.

There is always something I will do ‘wrong’ in someone’s eyes (yes, I understand PopTarts lack nutritional value, life happens), but I no longer care. I have the most amazing support system imaginable, and for that I am so thankful. I will still listen to the advice of those who do things differently, since different isn’t bad, but I will not feel bad about my decisions or judge other moms for theirs. They do what they need to do to get through the day, just like me. After all, with kids, isn’t that the goal? Make it to the end of the day. And if the end of your day is at 4pm with a glass of wine, more power to ya! Cheers!
