The Story behind the Fundraiser:
Fire changes things. It can cause catastrophic loss, devastation, and a general sense of hopelessness. But here’s something about fire that I bet you didn’t know. The short-term fire actually leaves a long-term impact on the soil – and it can actually be good. Fire creates a burst of nutrients that it leaves behind. It’s hard to see, because the change is below surface, but if we take time to look, good things can actually come from bad.
And such is the case in our story…
Anointed Hands Learning Center is a Christian-based center that supports the development of children ages 6 weeks to 12 years of age. The center opened in Avondale in 2010 without the aid of a grant or loan and suffered a fire in 2011. To anyone who looked around after the fire you would have seen complete devastation. You may even have felt hopeless because the center had to close and enrollments were at a standstill. But something was happening beneath the surface.
Anointed Hands has become a safe haven to the children of the community. They have sponsored “Back to School” drives and supported individual families who have significant needs at Thanksgiving and Christmas. The children they serve are impoverished and the center is often their only security. There have been many times when they opened early or closed late to accommodate parents who are working or attending school. (For more on the services they offer, click HERE.)The impact they have made, even since the fire has been great, and the need for the type of security they provide to children in their area is even greater. They are at a point where they can no longer accommodate new enrollments without a new building and additional supplies. Funding has been difficult to secure, however an Avondale building has become available with a seller willing to lower the price for the center if they can raise the down payment and additional funds.
Enter Enlighten Spa. The team at Enlighten Spa saw what was happening beneath the surface and they’re looking to help how they can. They are sponsoring a Ladies Night Out to help raise funds to support the tremendous efforts of Anointed Hands. This event is a great way to have a fun, relaxing evening out with friends, all for a great cause. Pamper yourself, while giving back to the community at the same time. Moms in particular often struggle to find time to take care of themselves or to justify the money spent on things like massages and manicures… this event is a tremendous opportunity to indulge and know you are helping others as well as taking a little “me” time. Win/win!
As our children head back to school with everything they need (and sometimes even more), let’s keep in mind our friends at Anointed Hands and the important work they are doing. As we look at all the choices we have regarding school for our kiddos, let’s remember the kiddos and their parents who absolutely depend on Anointed Hands, and let’s do what we can to help.
