Did you know it’s bubble week?? (There’s a day, week, month for EVERYTHING it seems!) While it looks like we may be granted a few days of warmish weather soon, I doubt it will truly be warm enough to spend any appreciable time outside. And if your kids are anything like my son, there is no such thing as playing with bubbles for just a short time. For some reason the kid loves bubbles and would readily play with them until all the bubble solution was gone, if I’d let him.
So, since it has been so cool out, I was curious to see if there are any indoor activities featuring bubbles that we could try. I turned to my old friend, Pinterest, and was pleasantly surprised to find so many different things to try!
I finally settled on this: Indoor Soap Bubbles
This just seemed really cool, and I had a strong suspicion that Ian would like it. Man, was I right!
I just grabbed a bowl from the cupboard, squirted in some dish soap and then added water until the bowl was 3/4 the way full. Then I grabbed a straw, demonstrated what to do (blow into the water), and let him have at it. He loved it!
He especially liked when I made the bubbles since I could get them to grow very big and even overflow the bowl. He thought that was just too funny.
It was definitely messy, but since it was just dish soap, it wasn’t a big deal… if anything it encouraged me to clean my table after we were done playing, so that’s not all bad.
We had lots of fun with this, and Ian was entertained for a good 20 minutes or more, but here are a few other bubble ideas you could try in celebration of bubble week (courtesy of Pinterest, again):
This looks like it has the potential to be messy but also seems like a lot of fun. If/when we do this, I will likely strip Ian down, throw a cloth on the table, and let him go to town.
Ok, ok.. this one isn’t indoors, but it just looks SO COOL (pun not intended)! Everything I’ve read says to wait until the temperature outside is below 20- so if our cold front is over, this one may have to wait until next year. I think we’ll blow some bubbles inside (perhaps the soap bubbles in a bowl?) and then set the bowl outside to see if the bubbles freeze. I’m so curious to see if these work.
