When picking out books, I have always found picture books to be easy to choose. But as your child transitions from picture books to easy readers to chapter books, it is hard to know where to start. As a school library volunteer, I was happy to help compile a list of 1st-3rd grade favorites!

I’ve divided up this list of 1st-3rd grade series books by topic. I chose series books because once you hook a child in a series, they become avid readers!  Of course, reading interests and levels vary, so there’s a little something here for everyone!

If your child is crazy about sports:

For your animal loving child:

If your child wants to read about other kids:

For a child who loves mysteries:

For the child who wants to learn about historical people and places:

Classics from your childhood to share with your child:

And as your child’s reading level, age and subject matter mature, I offer these book series designed more for 4th-6th grade readers:

Of course this is by no means a comprehensive list! So as you read, feel free to add your favorites in the comments below!
