Amwell_Image1_Full1I still remember a few years ago when I woke up one morning to find my eyelashes caked with goo and unable to open easily. I knew what it was… pink eye. I had a really important training scheduled for that afternoon and all I needed were the drops to get me started on the road to recovery. Simple right? Think again. After leaving two messages at my PMD’s office and finally getting a hold of someone, I told them all I needed was to have a prescription called in. Of course the answer to that request was no… they wanted to see me in person. I had to cancel my afternoon appointment as the only sick visit available created a time conflict. I begrudgingly headed in to the office, where I paid my co-pay, waited in the lobby for about an hour and FINALLY got in to see the MD for maybe 2 minutes before leaving with the prescription in hand for the drops I knew I needed 8 hours earlier. But, at the time, there was no other option.

I am excited to say that now there is!

Amwell is a new medical app which provides you with access to qualified doctors 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, conveniently from wherever you are as long as you have your iPhone, iPad or computer on hand.

screen568x5682screen568x568When you first visit, you will be asked to register for yourself and any children you wish to connect with your account. After that initial visit, your records will be stored in connection with your profile for each subsequent time you log in. After registering/logging in, you are taken to a screen listing available providers. https://amwell.com/cm/finder/doctor-specialties/cincinnati-ohio-462615/ When I first logged on,it was after 10pm and there were 6 doctors immediately available. When you click on the individual providers, you are presented with the physician’s credentials and qualifications, along with their affiliations and location. Once you choose who you would like to talk to you click “connect”. It’s that simple.

A video chat, typically lasting about 10 minutes, and you can have a diagnosis for a lot of simple illnesses without ever leaving your house. And your prescription will be called in to your local pharmacy for pick up.

Remember my all day expedition to get drops for pink eye? With the amwell app, I could have had my MD consult, diagnosis and prescription in 10 minutes. I could have continued on easily with my day. Sounds amazing doesn’t it?

So, how much does this amazing service cost? $49 dollars for the initial consultation which can be easily charged to any debit, credit, or HSA/FSA debit card. Amwell is covered by several insurance carriers, but even if yours is not listed, they have an easy button option to request a receipt to utilize in seeking reimbursement from your insurance carrier.

First Visit Free1You don’t have to take my word for it though, you can easily create an account and try it out for yourself. Amwell is generously offering your first visit for FREE with the code “CITYMOMS”

And when you do, we would love to hear what you think about the experience!

In addition to family physicians, pediatricians, internists and emergency room doctors, there are also therapists and nutritionists available. It’s heath care, literally at your fingertips.
