Vision Board DIY

There are always conversations happening about self-care and me-time, and I am definitely guilty of not giving myself enough of either one. I have discovered a fun and creative way to do it, without spending a dime! Pedicures, shopping, and therapy are very expensive! Instead, I decided to create a vision for my life in 2017 by way of a vision board. Have you heard of them?  I am not into New Year’s resolutions and quite frankly, I do the best when the year is already a few months underway. I like to think that I am not late to the game, I am just thoroughly assessing it before jumping in to play!

To be honest, I wasn’t sure what I would get out of this experience, in my current career as a SAHM, but I wanted to give it a shot. I really do have goals beyond keeping the house clean, exercising regularly and eating healthy!

5 Steps to Creating a Vision Board:

1. Gather Supplies:

Magazines
Scissors
Glue
Poster board/ Cork Board

2. Get Started:

Flip through magazines and cut out words and images that speak to you! Consider each of the areas in your life when thinking about the goals that you want to achieve: family, health, career, relationships, and personal growth. Then ask yourself, what do you want? What do you value?

Your board may also include quotes, pictures, lists and personal affirmations. The best thing is, that it is ALL about you! Moms need things like this every once in awhile!

3. Arrange Your Board:

Now it is time to create your board!  Arrange your pieces in a way that feels comfortable to you. Every person has their own style, so there is no wrong way to do it. Keep it simple, or load it with inspiration – it’s totally up to you. Once you have the pieces in place, glue them onto the surface that you have chosen. How do you feel about what you have created?

4. Find a Home for your Vision Board

Place your vision board somewhere that you can easily see it – at your desk, in your bedroom or even make it into wallpaper on your computer. I’m thinking that I may make one to clip inside my planner…I do spend a lot of time there. The possibilities are endless!

5. Visit Your Vision Board

Now that you have created this amazing work of art, you need to make sure that you are looking at it regularly. It can’t go in the closet, like all of the other artwork you’ve created! Being moms, we all know that one day can be drastically different than the next. There may be days when you visit your board more than once, or a whole week may pass when you haven’t had time to take a breath, much less look at your “word” or favorite quote. That is ok! We all have to grab inspiration when we can get it!

Creating a vision board is a fun and relaxing way to incorporate inspiration into your life! We get so wrapped up in the busy-ness of life that we often forget about the things that we want to achieve. Grab a few magazines, your drink of choice and carve out some time to visualize the things that make you happy, along with goals that you wish to achieve. Visualization increases the chance of making dreams into a reality, so why not give a vision board a try? I would love to see it!
