The Papas and the Daddies

papasI grew up lucky. I had a daddy who was present and involved. He was a hard working man who was at the dinner table every night. He taught me how to fish, coached my teams and never missed an opportunity to tell me he loved me. He showed me the kind of person I wanted to become. He always made time to spend time with me and he showed me how much he loved me. He has helped me become the person I am today. Now he has become an incredible papa to my kids. He volunteers at their school, takes time to really know each of them and to make them feel special.  Looking back of all of the things he has done for me, the most important was showing by example the kind of man I wanted to marry.

My kids are growing up lucky. They have a daddy who loves them unconditionally and individually for who they are. He works hard to provide us with an incredible life and he makes time for each of us. He is funny and caring and always says I love you. He takes the kids to school each morning so he can see them before their day starts, does homework each evening and kisses everyone goodnight . He has welcomed and loved each child who has come into our lives, even those who went home to their families and those who went on to Heaven.

Any man can father a child.

It is the papas and the daddies who change their children’s future. It is the papas and the daddies who bring smiles to their little ones and show them what love is. It is the papas and the daddies who make memories we remember. Who coach our teams and cheer us on. Who support us. Who work hard for us. Who love us with their whole hearts.
imageIt’s the papas and the daddies who pick us up when we fall and knock us down a level when we need it. It is the papas and the daddies who help us reach our goals and show us lessons in defeat. Who know blood lines do not make family, it is how we love and treat each other that binds us. It is the papas and the daddies who show us who we want to be.

It is the papas and the daddies who go to Disney each year when they would rather be on a beach. It is the papas and the daddies who push swings, go swimming, play barbies and video games. It is the papas and the daddies who give baths and wipe faces. Who gag at dirty diapers and rock crying babies. It is the papas and the daddies who kiss boo boos and hold hands.

Anyone can be a father.
It is the papas and the daddies who make life better.

I know full well how lucky we are to have such a papa and a daddy to love every day.
Happy Father’s Day to all of those papas and daddies….
