Most importantly…WHY?

“Children with apraxia of speech have extreme difficulty learning to clearly say syllables and words. Although a child with apraxia understands language and knows the words that he or she would like to say, the brain does not send accurate messages to the muscles of the lips, tongue and jaw, telling those muscles how, when, and in what order to move so that those mouth parts can produce the words clearly. With early intervention and appropriate, intensive speech therapy, children with apraxia can and do improve in their speech and communication.” -CASANA

Want more information about Apraxia of Speech?  Here’s a great fact sheet.

From the Walk Coordinators:
“What began as a way to gain a support group and spread awareness became a dream come true for our family and so many others in just 2 short years. Last year, Truman’s Trek N Trot boasted over 500 participants and raised more than $32,000 for children and their families struggling to communicate effectively. Our committee of families were overwhelmed with the support of our community that this year we changed the date, location, name and time to reflect our expansion! We are happy and proud to invite you to join us on Sunday, September 20th for our Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky 5K/Walk For Apraxia at Sawyer Point / Yeatman’s Cove right on the Ohio River. Please join our Childhood Apraxia of Speech Crusade and help to SPREAD THE WORD and unlock voices!

The walk is being held to benefit the Childhood Apraxia of Speech Association of North America (CASANA). All proceeds will benefit apraxia research and programs.”

I originally hail from the Land of Lincoln (Illinois), but I am happy to have called the Buckeye State my home since 2007! I have two kids (Milo, 5 & Dash, 2) that I just adore about 50% of the time. The other half of the time I’m dodging balls being thrown at my head while cleaning snot off of my shirt for the 3rd time and reminiscing about the days I actually slept. Also, I love cats. And I have mediocre crochet talents.
