Family Performance Series: The Inventive Princess of Floralee

This original, two-person, interactive, 30-minute fairy tale will have your students “thinking like scientists” as they follow the Princess of Floralee on the adventure of a lifetime, searching for the kidnapped king kept in the clutches of a viciously vile and wrathfully wicked witch.Along the way, your students will help the princess solve a variety of math, engineering, science, and even dance challenges as she uses her brains, wit, and sound judgment to find her father in the land Scalenfell.

Your students will laugh and cheer as they meet characters like a figure-skating dragon, a Platypus saving Pirate, a gate with a flair for dancing, and a witch, that they may recognize! This unique educational opportunity unites science and art by giving your students the chance to laugh, dance, and think critically about topics rooted in STEM.

The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden will transform into a magnificent explosion of color when Zoo Blooms kicks off this spring. The zoo promises to be a palette of artistic color with a combination of more than 80,000 tulips. As one of only two accredited botanical gardens in Ohio, the Cincinnati Zoo offers one of the largest tulip displays in the Midwest. Dubbed “Tulip Mania,” Zoo Blooms will also feature more than one million daffodils, hyacinths, flowering trees, shrubs and other spring bulbs exploding with color.

Washed up on the shores of West Africa, an infant boy is taken in and raised by gorillas who name him Tarzan. Tarzan’s life is mostly monkey business until a human expedition treks into his troop’s territory and he encounters creatures like himself for the first time. Tarzan struggles to navigate a jungle, thick with emotion as he discovers his animal upbringing clashing with his human instincts.

Beverage sales, fun games and live music. The Findlay Market Opening Day Parade kicks off at noon and will pass by Washington Park on Race Street as it makes its way through the city. Be sure to stick around after the procession for even more music, family-friendly activities, cold beverages, and delicious food options. Additionally, Washington Park’s concession stand will be selling beer, wine, mixed drinks, soft drinks and water.

Findlay Market Opening Day Parade

Since 1920, this parade has made its way from Findlay Market in Over-the-Rhine through the streets of downtown each spring to kick off the Cincinnati Reds baseball season. Bring a chair and some noise makers and make a party of it at either Washington Park or Fountain Square as the parade passes by. The celebration continues throughout the day at Fountain Square with concessions and watching the game on the big screen. Show your Reds pride or be wowed by everyone else’s and join in the fun!

Aiming for a new way to enjoy the great outdoors? Try out your skills with a little target practice! Our archery instructor will guide you through the basics of shooting a compound bow while explaining the archery steps to success. All equipment is provided. For adults and children ages 8 and up. Diaper Drive runs from Mar 20 – May 20; 5k and 1 mile family fun run hosted at Winton Woods Park on Saturday, May 20, at 9am. This is a day full of having fun and doing good – perfect for kids and adults alike!

I am a native Cincinnatian, born and raised on the West Side and currently settled across the river in Northern Kentucky. I’m a former Highlander, Bearcat, Falcon, and Fulbright Scholar. My greatest challenge hitherto is the one I love the most: being a Mom to an energetic eight-year-old boy. When not working full-time at one of the city’s great hospitals, I’m trying to fit in all there is to do in this wonderful city – and there is certainly A LOT to do! As one who loves to read, I am an advocate for the public library and go multiple times a week. You can often find me at Music Hall enjoying the ballet, opera, and orchestra. I am an introvert, a bit of a foodie, an NPR listener, a pessimist who likes to think she’s a realist, a middle child, an ex-wife and amicable co-parent, a fiancée, and much, much more. I feel lucky to have grown up in Cincinnati and to be raising my own child in this wonderful city.
