Faces of Cincinnati: Abigail Morwood

2

Here at Cincinnati Moms Blog, we are huge fans of our city…and the lovely people who also call it home.  Our “Faces of Cincinnati” series will introduce you to some of these people, as we ask them about Cincinnati traditions, their local profession and even the biggest rivalry known to man…Skyline vs. Gold Star!

Abigail Morwood moved to Cincinnati to become a member of The Cincinnati Ballet. Abigail met her husband after moving here and now they call Cincinnati home. If you have seen one of the incredible Cincinnati Ballet performances, you have probably witnessed Abigail’s amazing talent up on stage. This past year she has even performed in several shows while pregnant with her first child. Mamas can you imagine dancing and performing through those first few months of pregnancy?!?! Here is a glimpse into one of the faces of the arts and culture scene here in Cincinnati.

The Cincinnati Kid

While I did not grow up in Cincinnati my husband did and he loved it! We are excited to raise our children in Cincinnati. There are so many things to do and we love the culture in and around the city.

Family Traditions

We love going on hikes and exploring the beautiful city of Cincinnati. There have been many times where we just jump in the car and drive around Cincinnati admiring the beautiful architecture. We love to get lost and then find our way back home. As a family we also love to cook. We can spend hours in the kitchen creating delicious food with music and wine or our favorite cocktail of choice. This usually happens every Sunday. It really has become a weekly tradition in our home.

Fun Fact

I love to cook and decorate! One of my all time favorite things to do is host people in my home. Whether they are coming for dinner or coming to stay a few nights, I love preparing for their arrival and creating a sanctuary for our guests.

We bought a 92 year old home that needs a lot of work and we are enjoying the slow process of updating and renovating our home. All of its little quirks and faults have become endearing to us and we love it! Every time I get a little time to myself I like to start working on a project for our home. Whether it’s painting a room, refurbishing a piece of furniture or replacing a faucet, I enjoy it all.

Profession

I have been a professional ballet dancer for 10 years. It is hard to believe it has been that long! We work Monday through Friday from 9:30-6:30 and during show weeks we work seven days a week. I love the stage. There is nothing like it. It has been amazing to get to do what I love for so long and to get paid for it!

Local Spotlight

When I’m not dancing I have been taking crossfit classes! It has been incredible to see how much cross training has helped me. I take classes at the amazing Cincinnati Strength and Condition gym owned by Stephen Flamm. They do amazing work there and have created a really inviting environment. I might be a little obsessed with it! They even created a class just for women, which has been a perfect fit for me.

Cincinnati is for Lovers

I love Cincinnati for many reasons. First, because it is the city where I met my darling husband and his incredible family. Second, because of its culture and appreciation of the arts. I am amazed at how Cincinnati supports the arts. They do it very well. Third, Cincinnati is a beautiful city. I love that it is small enough for you to feel homey in it and big enough for there to be lots to do. Cincinnati has the perfect balance of city life.

Skyline vs. Gold Star

I hate both. Sorry, native Cincinnatians!

Hi, Mom!

My mom is an incredible woman. She has been a huge support to me and one of my dearest companions. She is consistent and a source of reality and comfort. She is also a huge source of strength in my life. I love my mom!

Allison Leland
I am a wife and mommy to two sweet girls ages 4 and 10 months. I work from home part-time as an art teacher for a local online school. As a Cincinnati native I love this city and am so thankful to be raising my family here. I love getting creative with my four year old and letting her run wild with paint and lots of other art supplies. I am passionate about encouraging creativity and art making at any age. When I am not crafting or having adventures with my little girls, I love organizing, decorating, shopping for a bargain, exploring new places for family fun around the city, cooking, and searching for local restaurants with great food. I also run an Etsy shop, be tees. by AJB (https://www.etsy.com/shop/AuroraJanesBoutique), with my sister selling screen printed baby and toddler apparel.
