To My Daughter: As Your First Year of Preschool Ends

0

In a few short days,  you will finish your first year of preschool, the first in the next 19 years of schooling. You say you want to be a doctor so it could be even longer than that for you! It may not seem like a big deal, but it is. I am sending you off into the world to start learning and figuring things out on your own, apart from me. There are so many people in life who will teach you, challenge you, and help you to grow. This is only the beginning.

So as you go off to your last day of preschool, here are a few things I want you to remember…

I want you to follow the rules and be obedient to the teachers and adults who will continue to teach you and care for you. Be open to everything they have to show you, soak it all in and learn as much as you can.

Do not be a follower, be a leader. But lead with kindness and grace. You have a gift for making friends. Don’t leave anyone out and be friends with all of your new classmates, even if they are different from you or don’t like the same things you like. Learn from them and always, always, always be kind.

Be yourself. Don’t let anyone tell you who you are supposed to be or put limits on what you are capable of. You can do anything you set out to do and there are no limits to what you can achieve. I will even promise that as much as I want to send you out the door in perfectly matched clothing and fixed hair –that if you decide that you want to wear mismatched socks and stripes with polka dots, I will let you. I want you to be free to express yourself and I know that you will!

So here we go, with one year of preschool in the books and now off to conquer the world. I hope the world is ready for you, because you are going to do great things and I can’t wait to watch!

I am a wife and mommy to two sweet girls ages 4 and 10 months. I work from home part-time as an art teacher for a local online school. As a Cincinnati native I love this city and am so thankful to be raising my family here. I love getting creative with my four year old and letting her run wild with paint and lots of other art supplies. I am passionate about encouraging creativity and art making at any age. When I am not crafting or having adventures with my little girls, I love organizing, decorating, shopping for a bargain, exploring new places for family fun around the city, cooking, and searching for local restaurants with great food. I also run an Etsy shop, be tees. by AJB (https://www.etsy.com/shop/AuroraJanesBoutique), with my sister selling screen printed baby and toddler apparel.
