This post is part of a sponsored partnership with Whole Foods Market, however we would not partner with a business we did not feel brought value to our readers. The Cincinnati Moms Blog team enjoys shopping at Whole Foods Market and loves sharing helpful ideas with our BBQ-loving readers.

One of my very favorite things to do is to entertain friends and family, especially in the summer. The kids can play outside and the adults get to relax with a cold drink and catch up on the back deck. But I find myself sometimes stuck in the kid friendly rut of hot dogs and hamburgers. So I headed to our partner Whole Foods Market for inspiration to up my BBQ game.

First step of any great BBQ is choosing your entrée. I wanted something that would feed 10 people that was both kid friendly and economical. Also key is a meal that can be prepped ahead of time so I can spend time socializing with my guests instead of stuck in the kitchen.

Voila! Flank steak and BBQ Grilled Chicken.

  • For those of you not familiar, flank steak is a lean cut of beef, from the flank (as you can imagine) and is best marinated overnight and grilled whole, then sliced thinly across the grain. It is great for a crowd because it serves a lot and the shape allows for different levels of internal meat temperatures from end to center.
  • I decided to use my go to Flank Steak Marinade: 1/2 cup 365 Everyday Brand Tomato Ketchup, 1/4 cup soy sauce, 1 TBS Worcestershire sauce, 1 TBS minced garlic, 1 TBS garlic salt, 1 TSP black pepper, 1 TBS oregano and 1 TBS olive oil. Mix and pour over 2 flank steaks and marinate overnight. Grill 5-10 min on each side till desired temperature.
  • The chicken is even easier! Trim to equal sized pieces, combine with seasoned salt, black pepper and olive oil and marinate overnight as well. Grill one side, turn, then baste with 365 Everyday Brand Organic Kansas City Lovers BBQ sauce! I always leave a few pieces plain to satisfy the picky eaters in the crowd. Don’t forget to serve that tasty sauce on the side for dipping.

Next the sides!

Everybody loves a good pasta salad and it is easy to customize with different pasta shapes, lots of fresh vegetables, and tasty dressings. Today I chose 365 Everyday Brand Fusilli and Organic Italian Dressing with red peppers, cucumbers, green onions, grape tomatoes and olives.

Make things simple by rounding out the meal with cut fruit selections, carrots and Whole Foods Market’s French Onion Dip and 365 Everyday Brand Kettle Cooked Chips.

Don’t forget dessert! Dessert is easy with brownie bites and 365 Everyday Brand Organic Vanilla Bean Ice Cream.

And don’t worry if you have last minute plans and limited time. Whole Foods Market has everything you would need to host a backyard BBQ in no time flat. Just check out their one stop display in the front of the store! Here you’ll find meat, ready made sides and vegetables all in one place.

And everything in your local Whole Foods Market is free of artificial preservatives, colors, flavors sweeteners and hydrogenated fats so you know you are serving your guests something good. So stop by all summer long for your BBQ favorites.

I grew up in Wilmington, OH but am a Cincinnati girl at heart. I attended The (BEST) Ohio University, after which I met and married my husband of 18 years. After 2 kids (a 13 year old boy and a 8 year old girl) and 2 moves (Portland OR and Greensboro NC) we are back in our hometown and enjoying all Greater Cincinnati has to offer. As a contributor, I hope to pass on my love for this town and remind everyone that parenting is a messy business that is best dealt with a sense of humor, a stiff drink and a supporting cast of family and friends as crazy as you are
