Meet JennyPlease join us in welcoming our new contributor, Jenny, to the Cincinnati Moms Blog writing team!

“I am a Cincinnati native, wife to Neil and mom to a 2 ½ year old boy named Wally. I am a project Jenny 2manager and consultant by trade and I am also the author of Cincinnati Day Trips, a guide to interesting places within one day’s journey from the city center. I love the outdoors—hiking, fishing, kayaking and any other excuse to be out of the house! One of our hobbies as a family is filling up our National Parks Passport and we visit at least one (often more!) every year for vacation. I’ll never pass up a roadside attraction and love car trips (you can’t exactly pull a plane over if you want to see the World’s Largest Skillet). I recently took up sewing and have a fabric stash that is entirely too large already. I recently ran my first half marathon but am focusing on obstacle course races because they’re so much fun! Failed hobbies include watercolor painting and trying to play the ukulele. I share my adventures, mishaps and projects on my Twitter and Instagram accounts, @suburbinnati.”

Jenny 3If you could choose to do anything for a day, what would it be?

Locally, I would grab my day pack and hiking boots and head out to East Fork State Park for a hike with my whole family.

If you were a crayon, what color would you be and why?

Definitely forest green because I am most at home in the great outdoors and care about the environment.

What song would you sing at karaoke night?

“Take Me Home, Country Roads” by John Denver. First, you can’t feel bad when singing that song. Second, I love the places he mentions. Third, it’s a must-have on a road trip playlist, and I’m a road tripper at heart. I should also warn that I have no singing ability, so it might be best if this remains hypothetical.

Who would you call for bail money?Jenny 4

My dad or my father-in-law. My dad would be there the fastest and my father-in-law would laugh and not judge me.

If you had a warning label, what would yours say?

Does not play well without food.

If you had to eat at one Cincinnati restaurant for the rest of your life, what would it be?

I will never tire of Eli’s BBQ and will follow up with Dojo Gelato for dessert. How could you go wrong with that combo?

What is your favorite place to take the kids in Cincinnati?

Cincinnati Nature Center – Rowe Woods. I love the Nature Playscape and my son has been hiking with us on their trails since he was only a few weeks old. My husband and I were also married there, so it’s a happy place for us.

Jenny 5What is your favorite thing about being a mom?

I love seeing the world through my son’s eyes. As busy and as complicated as life gets, it’s so refreshing to get excited over a leaf or stop to say hi to the neighbor’s dog. And the simple, pure love and trust he has in me is more than anything I ever hoped for.

What is your least favorite thing about being a mom?

The judgement all moms experience at some point. With social media, it’s even worse than it was for previous generations because it’s constant and out in the open. You have to be very selective with what you share and tune out the noise or you will go crazy.

Welcome Jenny!

I originally hail from the Land of Lincoln (Illinois), but I am happy to have called the Buckeye State my home since 2007! I have two kids (Milo, 5 & Dash, 2) that I just adore about 50% of the time. The other half of the time I’m dodging balls being thrown at my head while cleaning snot off of my shirt for the 3rd time and reminiscing about the days I actually slept. Also, I love cats. And I have mediocre crochet talents.
