10 Water Activities for Toddlers

water activities for toddlersSummer is closing in. The big kids are out of school. We’ve been on vacation (Yes! Already!). The big kids are off to basketball camps, and I again find myself at home with just Miss Toddler. But it’s HOT! She loves playing in the water, but gets bored quickly if she thinks she’s not having enough fun. I’m hoping these 10 water activities will get her outside, keep her happy, cool and having fun!

1. Run through the sprinkler! An obvious first choice for kids of all ages!

2. Painting with Water – make it more fun, and join the kids for a game of Win, Lose or Draw!

3. Doll Bath Time – this probably works best with dolls with no hair (don’t ask me how I know!)

4. Laundry Day – Grab a big bowl of water and some kitchen towels and let them wash the towels with water – add a squirt of dish soap to add bubbles to the fun.

5. Water Bin – Fill a bin with water and toss in your funnels, squirt bottles, and strainers.

6. Ice Hunting – Bury several miniature figurines with water and ice and have them hunt for their treasure.

7. Water the Flowers – The real flowers, weeds, or grass will do, toddlers don’t care.

8. Race the Rubber Ducks – Steal the rubber ducks from the tub, fill a bin with water, assign each of the kids their own duck, and whoever squirts their duck to the finish wins. Be prepared for a photo finish!

9. Water Balloon Basketball – Fish out that small basketball hoop from the basement, set it out in the backyard, and see how many water balloon baskets they can make!

10. Practice Pouring Water into Cups – water + motor skills = win!

What other ideas do you have for me?
